Flickr and Ebay grew big because of commodity internet, and commodity
digital cameras
Something new will grow out of higher speed internet and commodity
digital hd video
Something new will grow out of digital video coming out of cell phones.
Imagine saving all your videos from your entire life, consuming
terabytes of storage, and being able to control the playback through
your cell phone. Imagine being able to search for images of of dad who
passed away, or your wife when she was younger, or a child from before
an accident.
World of warcraft and everquest grew out of cheap computing and cheap
bandwidth.
Something new will grow out of 10mbps bandwidth and multicore processors
linked to ever larger clusters of servers and mainframes.
Imagine what those clusters of mainframes can do?
Imagine running video editing applications, or animation rendering, or
office applications, or browsing through the audio and video recordings
of your life.
Imagine being able to record your entire life. All your conversations
and all your actions and have them available for playback and to share.
Wim wenders imagined one universe.
Sci fi writers have imagined others.
Imagine manufacturers and producers putting ads and cash registers into
those worlds.
Imagine playing a reading a story that was actually a manual to a game.
Imagine watching a tv show and movie that was actually a tutorial to a
game.
Imagine playing a game that rehearsed biologicaly healthy behaviour.
Imagine earning rewards for doing good things in the game that could be
converted into real things from biologically healthy producers.
Imagine getting letters as part of the game.
Imagine chatting with actors in the game who are in reality counsellors.
