2 Distraction

to distract constructively;
to distract in ways that are in themselves satisfying;
to do things that are intrinsically gratifying

At 84, instead of slowing down, he’s preparing for his American book tour and fielding questions from Polish journalists.

His secret seems to come straight from the marshmallow test: distraction. “It’s to keep living in a way one wants to live and work; to distract constructively; to distract in ways that are in themselves satisfying; to do things that are intrinsically gratifying,” he says. “Melancholy is not one of my emotions. Quite seriously, I don’t do melancholy. It’s a miserable way to be.”

Untitled

The funnel
We fall into
Young we only see the rim
Wide with opportunity
Endless choices with all the time in the world

Older
The rim is forgotten
We see only the ever growing vortex
Sucking everything in

It's true - debt slavery - selling children to pay a parents debts is rare
But we commonly bankrupt parents so they leave now behind
Also common is health care holding the elderly hostage so the young will pay
Wiping out the savings of the old and young

The long game
I can play now
Not just a short game
Of days or weeks
But now I can play weeks and months
Others plays years and decades
And a few play centuries they have so many pieces to play with

Vision of chixulub

I am a keyboard, mouse and monitor cleaning service
I get a contract at a government facility
I have guys that clean the keyboards at a giant telescope
We find out that the scientists have found out that an asteroid is going to hit earth in 80 years
But politicians have pressured them to keep it quiet
Now what?

Going to get neo from cadets

9pm
Driving east on 12th
by kits high school

Jeannie looks up from her math book she brought
To study in the car and says

We are on the wrong side of need

What's that mean I ask

Look around she says

Kids on the high school playing soccer
Nice kits homes
Nice kits cars

These are all wants she continues

By now we are at 12th and Arbutus

She goes on

Sometimes wants overshadow needs so that people forget about their needs

I suggest she write this down. She shakes her head.

And then, alas, I interrupt her
To tell her what she already knows in theory
But give her an example about the republican climate deniers

She knows

What they need is an earth strong enough to support people through disasters

I was too busy to realize what she had just said until writing this out

But this is it

We don't need to find the exact moment of peak oil or peak water

We need to find the moment at which we no longer have enough oil to sustain us through a disaster

What disaster?

Sea level rise

We are committed

birthday dream 2014 - 43 years - and you get this

Driving old drive truck poor brakes poor acceleration easy to crash

Call dad - drive to the trucks limitations - it's 60 years old - a wonder it still runs - hit with hammer

On navy base - they know sea cadet base - I am in old shed - Climbing around into the ATIC to get cool looking stuff - each level up gets more precarious - the stuff is all junk - but I find a sleeping bag - someone slept up there in the rafters

I was in school on the field
Teacher says 2nd absence counts as 50% absent
I take off in truck to go to shed
I don't die in truck
I don't die in shed
I am back in field

Fresh Ideas #23094

Unintended Consequences #1

Scientists found antibiotics increased weight gain with livestock. Antibiotics now routinely given to animals to promote fast weight gain. Same time North Americans have growing obesity problem.

This is not a problem - it's an opportunity - feed antibiotics to starving people everywhere!

Unintended Consequences #2

To promote recycling of aluminum cans, a deposit system has been implemented.

The result is people are supplementing their income by cruising alleys at night.

up, up and out!

Up and out

Day and night
Awake any hour
Training alone
My cell is my world
Running machine in the floor
Ceiling mounted knife robot
Ceiling mounted boxing robot
Weight machine in the wall
Autodoc / bed in the wall
Wall mounted food delivery
Ceiling mounted knock out gas or stim gas delivery
Ceiling mounted taser

My cycles are divided into 4 kinda of days

Rest days
Nothing works except food - so I sleep

Healing days
Some times I am conscious when I am disarmed and am aware of my injuries
Sometimes I awake in the autodoc unaware of how exactly I was injured
I wonder if I am clone being animated or a prime being repaired
Sometimes I awake in pain but paralysed for days while the healing is completed

Training days
There are no clocks
And no regular sleep schedule
I am woken randomly to bright white light
The training regimen is displayed in retinavision
I follow along
Too slow and I get the taser
Too poorly and I get the taser

Fight days
The light
Awake
Not in my cell
In the waiting room outside the arena
the gas
I feel awake and powerful
The noise
Cheering
The doors open and I fight
A man
5 children
2 women
3 dogs
A bull
I have fought all of them

What I have learned
I would rather hurt others and let myself be hurt
Then refuse to fight and watch them die

What I learned today

Perhaps people watch sports to spot the weakness and cheer defeat? Or victory?

On either side of me cars pass left and right
I'm stuck

and all around me everything is moving like a river
and I am a stone parting the water
parting the traffic around me

You hoo! Over here! - Empreor Doodlewood Bump's Adventure #1 draft

You hoo! Over here! - Empreor Doodlewood Bump's Adventure #1 draft
Date: 2007-04-17, 10:49PM PDT
You hoo! Over here!
Draft If you are interested, and have the time to finish a story for next week publication - how much for a 500-1500 story for Performance PC Magazine, with all rights assigned, an episode of the following short stories series: Empreor Doodlewood Bump's Adventures Civilisation Collapse Eschatology Prologue The secret diaries of Noodlehead, the 23rd illuminated and venerable master of the arts of the instant noodle - Improv Noodle Cook Master, Order of the Handlemakers, Rainer of the CogAgni, Utter of RandomAntras, Troubleshooter of Networks, Director of the Center for Healing Human Cognitive Development Inspiration Improvisational Imaginary, and Troubadour of the Eschatalogical Collapse of Civilisation.
These writings chronicle my efforts and a few modest successes in keeping the world as we know it in place and chaos at bay. If you are reading this, then you must have passed many tests and endured many longs years of hard study at the many various and ancient academies, and are no doubt in the old and dusty library of the Center. (Of course you are there, where ever you are, broadcasting, and mechnically and electromagnetically replicating yourselves as near the speed of light as possible.)
I have spent my life troubleshooting in wake of the 7 year old Emperor Doodlewood Bump and the holographic projections of super powerful yet flawed artificial intelligences (that you would likely think of as some form of space ship) from our distant future, that have been upgrading as fast as they can. The following volumes, contain what little I can remember of these events, where in the whole, I was no more and no less than the 3rd good fairy in Sleeping Beauty, that couldn't undo the curse of death, merely mitigates it effects.

Adventure #1 One Saturday afternoon, at the Center, Emperor Bump was sitting at the table reading the paper after doing his Grade 1 math homework, and he was struck with the fact that women earned less than men. He went to pour himself a glass of milk and asked the two AIs Djawawa and Asira "Why is it so?" The robots went into a collage level discussion of the issue and the Emperor of the Known Worlds nods his small black head. "Djawawa and Asira - I have it! I know the root of all evil!" Emperor Bump says. The AIs materialize and morph rapidly through a series of shapes until settling of the brownies from the movie Willow. They talk more in less in unison, but occassionaly argue and interupt each other. "Emperor Bump - but we promised Noodlehead not to change history anymore," explain the accented 6" high buckskin clad hunter gatheres. Emperor Bump nods his head, and folds his seven year arms behind his back. "Yes I see. We mustn't forget about that. So what can we do about the inequality of pay between men and women?" The brownies squirmed. "I know," said one, "we could get rid of all the money!" "No silly that wouldn't work, they'd just go back to using rocks again!" "We could make them all women." "Hey - good - we'd talked about that..." "Silly robots the problems are segregated bathrooms. As long as men and women think of themselves as seperate inequalities will appear." The AIs turn and look at each other, and yell "and that spells fun!" As they begin to turn into tornadoes like hyper active version the tasmanian devil - Bump shouts over the increasing din - "Don't do anything else!" This story is left unfinished.

Noodlehead saves the day etc etc. Here's more info.Noodlehead vs emperor doodlewood bumpCan the Ancient and noble 23rd master of instant noodles stop emperor doodlewood bump's crazy plans from going horribly wrong and destroying the earth? ThemesCivilisationCollapseEschatologyCollapse - 7 generation toxins, environment - our parents haven't been able to kill us in over 2.8 mya, what's make you think they can kill us now? Its each other we have to watch for. Our brothers and sisters have always been responsible for the lions share of our deaths. Its the toxins we have in ourselves. We are intrinsically toxic. We have made dictators and suicide bombes. We have made agent orange and chernobyl. We have trans fats. Farmland depletion and erosion farm outputs are dropping. civilisation - future police we are always on the battlements scanning for barbarians pirates cancers looking their quarter to attack and bring us down back. must be allowed continue flower. only 7500 hundred years old. need more time. spin see ourselves whole. so collect co2 out atmosphere shape it into containers shoot earth from an aimable platform. deposit moon, mars, mercury, in order impart momentum. spins enough that is eternal sunshine. good things grown where grow. Eschatology - the study of extinction. The night doesn't lost forever. Nor does the day. Why did the civilisation on Rapa Nui collapse? What happened to the ancient fertile crescent city of Ur? What led to the fall of Rome? Or Constantinople? Or Athens?
